Psalm 20 is about the faithfulness of God to answer the prayers of hHis children in the day of trouble. And trouble is all around us. In Psalm 116 the psalmist said, "The pains of death surrounded me, and the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me; I found tourble and sorrow. Ps. 116:3. Trouble in this life is a given. However, we ae not left alone. We have a defender. He is God. And David tells us that He will send help from his holy temple, because of our worship and because we present ourselves as a living sacrifice to Him.
Here we have one of David's prayers. This prayer is for his fellow saints. He ask God to grant the desires of of your heart. What an awesome thought. Then he ask God to grant all our petitions. This is my prayer for you today. Will you remember the name of the lord our God and present yourself afresh and a new as a living sacrifice to Him today? It is what He wants more than anything else. |

This morning I was reading Psalm 19. What a wonderful psalm it is. It is about the greatness of the Word of God. The Psalmist begins in verses 1 through 4 about the presence of the Word. The Word’s presence is seen in the universe. From the heavens to the earth and all that is contained within. The Psalmist says that there is not a single group of people on the earth who do not hear the Word. Paul wrote in Romans that we are without excuse, be God is revealed in nature. David said that the Word goes to the ends of the earth.
In verse 5 and 6 he speaks of how the Word permeates us. He compares the Word to the sun. Which warms us as its rays permeates our body. And he compares this permeation to a bridegroom coming out of his chamber to meet with his bride. The word of God permeates our lives so that you and I can develop a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ. So many people today think that living the Christian life is about keeping a list of do’s and don’ts, but Christianity is about a right relationship With the Father through the Son. When the relationship is right, everything else will follow.
In verses 7 to 9 he reveals the power of the Word. First is converts the soul. It reveals to us God’s desire for us to have a right relationship with Him, as well, as our need for a Savior. Secondly, it has the power to make something hard to understand simply. For example it is hard for me to understand the love of God. The Bible says that it is perfect, it is not judgmental, it shows on respect of persons, it is unconditional. But through the Word I can experience God’s love and once it is experience, it becomes quiet simply. God is Love!
In verse 10 and 11 we find the preciousness of the Word. David says that it more desirable than gold, even fine gold. And it is sweeter than honey and the honeycomb. The Word of God warns us and when the relationship is right with the Father the reward is great.
In the last few verses David states the purpose of the Word. The purpose of the Word can be summed up in a few brief statements. First, the Word reveals to us Man’s sin problem, our dilemma. Secondly, it reveals to us God’s love for us even though we have sin and that sin has separated us from Him. Thirdly, it reveals to us how that our broken relationship with Him can be restored. And fourthly, it show us the benefits of a right relationship with Him.

One of the greatest privileges of my calling is to preach the Word of God. It is not easy, but to see the Holy Spirit take the Word of God and transform lives is an awesome thing. Sometimes, I know people don't want to hear the truth, but the truth will set you free. I pray that I will always be able to preach out of love for God's people even when preaching against sin and our sinful tendencies. |

"Great is Thy Faithfulness" is one of my favorite hymns. It is a reminder of how faithful our God really is. No matter what is happening in your life. You can trust that He is aware of it and He is on your side. No problem you face, no heartache you experience, escapes His knowledge. The Word of God says, that God breaks out in song because you are His child and His master piece.

i spent about 8 hours today removing the floor from part of the old church where Kelly's Kloset was because of termites. They had eaten the joist completely up. The same thing happens when we harbor sin in our lives. It destroys our witness and our testimony. It also does damage to the Kingdom of God. Let's confess our sins daily so that we can join Christ in building His Kingdom. |
